Default Honda Oil Filters

I have a 2002 Odyssey & a 1997 del Sol Si. I just purchased oil filters
from Honda for both of these vehicles. To my surprise, the filters were the
same (very small in diameter) for both vehicles. When I asked the parts
clerk about it he said it was the correct filter for both vehicles. How
would I confirm this to be correct?

Regards,

Because he is the trained Honda Technician and knows this. If you think you
know better, go back and argue with him. If you want to find out for
yourself, go to a local Wal Mart and go to the oil filter section. Look up
the oil filter type for each kind of vehicle in the master oil filter book.
Look at the prices of the filters at Wal Mart and see how much you overpayed
for those filters at Honda. HAHAHA.

There was a long discussion about the new filters several montha ago. You
can find that thread via Google at http://tinyurl.com/24rjo.

Reviewing the previous discussion cited by Eric. A post

Some filters let oil drain back into crankcase.
Undesirable. Honda filters, the modified design of Ford's
LF-1, and some other filter designs incorporate a check valve.
When car starts, oil is right there immediately. Ford
mechanics could simply listen on startup. The excessive noise
due to no oil on startup identified which Fords had filters
selected only on price.

Some filters just don't bother with that check valve - to
sell only on a spec called price. Even here, one demonstrates
that price is the only important specification. For a dollar
more at the dealer, I use his filters. I know what I am
getting.

Better auto companies have one filter for all models.
Accomplished when engineering teams are working in
coordination.
