Default 14 year/150,000 mile extendend warranty for Hondas..anybody use it?

Has anybody here utilized the extended emission warranty for their 95-97 or
so Hondas in which Honda agrees to change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor,
change oil and filter, scan the OBD II system and replace any emission
related components free of charge to the customer?

I would like to hear good or bad how this turned out for you.

Sorry....I should have been more specific. I was speaking of the consent
decree that Honda agreed to in writing with the EPA basically. A copy of it
is here. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/recall/honda_cd.txt

A more basic copy of it is here...

Did you have to pay for the extended warranty? Does it apply to 98 Accords?

Thanks for the link. Very useful. Is there such warranty for newly purchased
vehicles? Just curious.

It was a one-time thing instead of a recall for some of the first OBD-II
Hondas because the Govt found out Honda did not install/connect all the
required sensors.

The dealers do the check automatically if the car ever enters their garage
and the mileage is in the specified range. In my case, without asking. All
it amounted to was a set of free spark plugs.

That's what I want to know. I am surprised you only got the plugs when the
decree specifically mentions the plugs along with all the other stuff.

I read the decree couple times and this is what I came up with. Between
50,000-75,000 miles you can bring the vehicle in and get it inspected as
many times as you like to look for emission related defect and they'll
repair it as necessary. In the person's case below, all the car needed was
spark plugs.

The one time tune up is a separate thing from the inspection, and it's as
stated below. If you would like the one time oil change and tune up I would
call and make an appointment and reference the consent decree.

b. With respect to each Affected Vehicle brought
into a Dealer during the period from 75,000 through 150,000 miles
of vehicle use, Honda shall instruct and cause its Dealers, at no
cost to the vehicle owner: (i) to replace the spark plugs,
ignition wires, distributor cap, and rotor, using parts of like
or similar quality to the OEM parts; (ii) to change the engine
oil and engine oil filter; and (iii) to scan the OBD system to
identify any emissions-related malfunctions covered by the
Extended Emissions Warranty under this Consent Decree. The
package of replacements and services provided for in this
subparagraph shall be available only once per Affected Vehicle
during the 75,000 through 150,000 mile period of use described
above and Honda shall have no obligation to permit Affected
Vehicle owners to have separate components thereof performed or
provided during separate service visits.

That may be what it says, but that's not what they do/did. In the case I
noted below, I had literally replaced the spark plugs the previous day with
OEM NGK's from that same dealer's parts desk! The car had about 73,000
miles on it at the time and what the guy said was "We went ahead and did the
150,000 mile one because it was close, so we're clear of it on this car
now."

So I'll restate my original suggestion - if you don't want it done
prematurely, steer clear of the dealer.

If it's in writing and they're suppose to provide it.. I would demand for
it. If they don't, I would contact Honda NA directly and discuss it with
them.

The most important part of the warranty is that if anything turns on the
check engine light during the warranty period, it is fixed for free.
