Are plugs/sockets for car radios standard?

Where can I find them?

are you looking to replace to an aftermarket cd player? If so you will need
a wiring harness which I recommend going to any sound performance place or
even circuit city or best buy. They will have a 2 part wire harness that
plugs right into your stock plugs and into cd player without splicing.

I put the summer car (98 Civic HX) away last month.
The winter car/sacrificial anode (90 Dodge Omni)
didn't have a radio when I bought it. I put a fairly decent radio in it.
Since the Honda, it has been
sitting in the summer with the windows up. Eventually
the first radio roasted. I bought a cheap radio and that
roasted in about two years.

I want a cheap radio. I have six wires and one antenna
cable - 4 speaker wires, V+, V- and the antenna.

I went to a junk yard and heard about 21 pin sockets,
15 pin sockets, etc. This piece of junk doesn't have
that.

All I want is a cheap radio with an antenna socket, V+,
V- and a couple of speaker terminals - stereo optional.

Are these harnesses standard, or do they differ with
manufacturer, model or whatever?

There is no commonly used standard. Blaupunkt has used substantially the
same pinout for years, and several other manufacturers follow the same
pinout. Some European car makers also use the Blaupunkt connector and
pinout in their cars. That is as close as you are going to get to a
standard.

A new stereo usually comes with a wiring harness that plugs in to the
stereo, but with just wires in the other end. You then have to buy a
wiring harness that plugs in to the car connector and splice the two
wiring harnesses together (solder or crimp, your choice). In your case
you need to do this for each car so you need an extra wiring harness for
the stereo (it comes with only one). http://www.crutchfield.com has a
large variety of wiring harnesses. Your local car stereo place can
probably help as well. Target and WalMart both have a limited selection
of harnesses as does Fry's Electronics if you have one close by. Radio
Shack used to have these sorts of things, but I could not find it last
time I was there.
