Default Question: 1999 Accord EX Stereo CD Replace

Hey Honda lovers,

I have a factory CD player in my 1999 EX-V6 Accord. It won't play CD-Rs. It
seemingly takes up the vertical equivalent of two aftermarket stereos. What
is the most simple option for me to replace the factory CD-player with a
basic "regular" size aftermarket CD-player? What is the blank faceplate
part that I need, and where do I buy it? How easy will it be for me to wire
in the new stereo by myself? Will it affect the alarm system or the keyless
entry?

On another note...what size of replacement speakers do I need for this car
(front and rear), and are they fairly easy to replace?

Thanks in advance!

you can get the plate and a wiring harness adapter at any local stereo shop,
as for how to do it, here are some instructions

Go to http://www.crutchfield.com and it will tell you what will fit in
your car. They sell all the adapters and trim pieces you need. If you by
the stereo from them, they throw in the adapters etc. for free.

Installing a new stereo is not all that hard.

Have you tried different brands of CD-Rs (including the blue dye type like
the TDK disks from a couple of years ago - sorry I don't know the specific
name for the dye)?

Keep in mind that there's a difference between playing CD-Rs and
playing MP3s. My Honda factory radio ('01 Prelude SH) plays CD-Rs
fine, provided that they are copies of CDs or compilations of CD
audio. It won't, of course, play a disc full of MP3s.

For that you need a radio that is capable of playing MP3s - those
radios have the software needed to decode the music files and they
usually have features that help you navigate the directories, view the
song names, and so forth. I have a Sony MP70 in my truck that works
very well for MP3s.

Good Luck,
John

I believe that the older 74 minute CDs will play just about anywhere-but
they are hard to find now. The newer 80 min will not work in some players.

Not 100% sure of this, however.
