Any recent CR-V shoppers out there, we would appreciate your opinion...
are your dealerships successfully selling at ~ MSRP pricing right now?

I went in armed with all of Consumer Reports' info on holdpacks,
wholesale/invoice rates, and was told by the sales manager that he could
discount $500-600 off MSRP at the most. Simple supply/demand. It would be
easy for them to discount Civics and Accords but CR-Vs are in high demand,
there just aren't enough available. Heading off to more dealerships to
validate this, hoping to find something closer to invoice if possible.

You might try visiting several different Honda dealerships and play one
against the other in reducing the price.

John, I bought mine at Barry Honda in Dartmouth 3 weeks ago. Same
thing, about 500 less than MSRP. There were 3 on the lot and plenty of
other people wanting to drive the one I bought. I decided it wasn't
worth worrying about, it's not like this car is going to break the bank
like the Chevy Tahoe did.
Good luck, but if you see one you like you ought to buy it.

That seems about right. I checked the price at http://www.carsdirect.com
using a Boston zip code. It came out to $300 below MSRP.

On the other hand, I checked the price using a San Francisco zip code and
the price was about $1000 below MSRP. Maybe this car is more popular in New
England than on the West Coast.

Thanks for the input. I went to another dealership after my first post and
got the same story there. Since my big requirement is giving my wife a car
w/ ABS and AWD, the Subaru Forester X is a real temptation, currently being
offered to us under invoice. A CR-V would have been nice...

On the subject of POPULARITY, we searched for a while before we got our
new (used) CRV, and we live near Edmonton, Alberta. Calgary is about two
hours away, but Calgary is closer to 'ski country' and we found that the
number of used CRV's to choose from was at least three times higher in
the Calgary newspaper / AutoTrader / Internet listings.

I thought the population of CRV's was high in Edmonton . . . . I'll have
to watch closely next time I'm in Calgary.

1. It's holdback
2. It's not yours. It's for the flooring of the vehicles. They may
sell the one imediately but it's used to cover the ones that aren't.
It's part of the cost of doing business.

Let's see, it's mid-November, AWD and 4x4's are about to be in major
demand when the weather turns white and fluffy, so yeah, he's going to
get whatever he wants for them. After all, there are still many people
who are blinded by the badge. There isn't anything wrong with the
CR-V but there are other equally good vehicles (if not better in their
own respects) out there. Shop around a bit.

Yup. We're about to snap up a similarly equipped Forester (well, no
picnic table though, lol) for about $2K less.

Some one on the discussion group of www.edmunds.com got a deal below invoice
price. My deal on a 2004 LX FWD was under $18k +TTL, which was about $1500
below MSRP.
