Default transmission symptoms in old Honda Accord

For a '91 Accord automatic, what is likely the first few symptoms when
the transmission is starting to go? And based on this "S" dash light,
when it flashes irregularly does this mean a bad transmission or bad
transmission control unit?

I would guess that the first symtom would be the gears not changing the
way they are suppose to change. Another symtom would be grinding sounds
coming from the transmission.

You can check the diagnostic procedures in the online manual
