Serveice engine light came on - for $85 the dealer told me it needed a
catalytic converter - and wanted $665 plus labor to install !!! WTF, no
way - anyone changed one out recently and what was your cost American $$

$250.00 (installed) for one on my '92 Accord at 215000 miles. Bought at
Mufflerman of Twinsburg Ohio.

Have had same problem with 98 Accord, are you tightening the gas cap?

What's your mileage on your car. My light came on at 72,000 miles on my 99
Accord EX. There's a government warranty on the cat but the catch it's
80,000 miles. I'm sorry I can't remember how may years though. My cat was
replaced at no charge.

it's 8 years 80,000 miles. and don't be so sure it is the cat converter.
Many times one of the oxygen sensors will pop the code for the converter.
So have them (the shop) make sure the cat is actually bad and it's just not
one of the o2 sensors.

Well mine was the CAT according to the dealer. They replaced the CAT (no
charge to me) no service light after almost 5 months and my gas mileage has
gone up as well. That's all I know.
