I have an '03 CR-V with a towing spec of 1500 lbs.
I am considering buying a small trailer that may exceed that limit by 10% - 20%. What aspect of the vehicle sets a limit on towing weight. What happens if I exceed that limit by 10 or 20 percent. Thanks, Carl |

Exceeding your vehicle's tow rating is generally OK, physically, at 10 or 20
percent. However, if you're going to be towing whatever it is you're towing alot of the time, there will be a significant increase in brake and tire wear. Furthermore, you're begging for transmission problems. However rarely it may happen, if a smart cop sees you (I know, oxymoron), he can write you a hefty ticket. I don't know if you've every looked at the rear end of a CR-V, but they're rather flimsy, so be careful doing whatever it is you're doing with the trailer. From the sound of things, it's jet skis or something..
