Default "Maintenance Required" light

Hi,

My Honda Civic just rolled passed 8000 miles yesterday, and the
"Maintenance Required" light started coming on every time I started my
engine. I turned up at my dealer when I had 4700 miles on the clock for
my oil change, but apparently he was fully booked for oil changes for
the next 2 weeks. Instead, I went to the local Jiffy Lube for my oil
change (and kept all the receipts).

I'm just wondering if the "Maintenance Required" switch should have been
reset when I had my oil (and other fluids) checked, or if I actually
need to schedule some "Maintenance Work".

I don't know why I'm putting everying in "inverted commas" - probably
something to with "LAY-SERS" </Dr. Evil>

Any input, anyone?

Cheers!

Lee

In my integra, there's a button under the dash, u can push it to reset the
maint. lite button. that's for if u do it urself. then it goes every

I RTFM AH, but it doesn't mention whether or not the switch is reset
after an oil change. It says that it comes on after 8000 miles - not
"8000 miles after your last oil change", hence my curiosity fueling my
honda newsgroup posting.

Yes, I went to Jiffy Lube or Oil Lube or Lube Express or whatever it is
these chains are called. I didn't have much of a choice seeing as I
couldn't wait 3 weeks for an appointment to my oil changed.

Your name's Robert?!? ha ha ha ha - you_are_kidding, right?

Believe me, that's the first place I looked. Page 57 if memory serves,
titled "My Maintenance Light Flashes".

Is _ it _ because _ the _ computer _ thinks _ I _ haven't _ had _ an _
oil _change _ in _ 8000 _ miles?

I have a 2003 Honda Civic LX and to reset the Mant. Req light you have
to have the key turned off and push and hold the reset button on your
dash, keep holding it while you turn your key past the key to the on
postition. Should take about 20 at the most, but the light should go
out. Its took about 15 secs. on my car. Now all I need to know is how
to turn the damn SRS light off.

If you are getting an SRS light on a 2003, you need to take it to the
dealer. It is under warranty after all.

I have 91 Accord EX Sedan and I recently did the oil change.
Mine also has the maintainance indicator on red.Dont know how to reset it.
Searched inside the Chilton's Manual but had nothing said about it.
Can anbody help ? All ideas suggestions welcomed. I will look under dash if
I can find any reset button.

Thanks

PV.

If there is a slot in the bottom of the instrument panel near the indicator,
stick you key in it and it will change it back to green. It is detailed in
the owners manual rather than the service book.

I believe that this is associated with the air bag system and if so, it
indicates that your air bag system is deactivated.
