In the manual, it says change once every 12 months under normal
circumstances, once every 6 months under extreme circumstances. I'm guessing extreme means if u live in places with lots of snow and salty roads n stuff. But, once a year oil change?!?! Is that wut new cars are like these days? |

I'm sure your manual clearly states what "extreme circumstances" are. Most people in fact fall in this category. IIRC, they include lots of short trips, lots of stop-and-go traffic, driving in dusty areas, etc. Unless you mainly do long highway trips, your circumstances are "extreme". I doubt snow and salty roads apply, though. The worst that's going to do is corrode your Accord's body and other parts. I doubt changing the oil more frequently is going to cure it. ;-) Cheers, Pete |

Thing about salty roads in this area is when the road dries out and the
salt stirs up in a dust storm and coats everything. I'm sure it gets past the air filter. Kills the trees too. bob Pete wrote: >> > I doubt snow and salty roads apply, though. I'd have to look to be really sure, but the recommended oil change
interval is based on miles, not time. The time comes in as "or at least" not as the primary measure. The V6 and 4 cyl have different oil change mileage, I think. Most people seem to believe that more frequent oil changes are better, but I suspect this is driven more by the oil change industry than scientific fact. I'd suggest you just follow the oil change mileage interval suggested by Honda. Extreme means lots of stop and go driving, driving in very hot or cold
conditions or where its very dusty. Extreme conditions apply to more people than you think.....especially for people only driving a mile to work and back with not much other driving in between. Is that wut new cars are like these days? If you plan to keep the vehicle for two years or less--you can have the oil changed every 12 months. If you plan to keep the vehicle for more than 4 years--change the oil and filter every 3000 miles. Change the transmission fluid and clean the filter every two years. Change the coolant every two years. |

Huh? Where do you get this stuff? It sounds like you're reading advice from Smokey in a Popular Science from about 1970. I would really like to see some actual data that shows a reduction in a modern car's usable life that was caused by following the manufacturer's published maintenance schedule. How about it? Anybody? Didn't think so. |
