Default Accord '94 Wagon: Power Antenna Questions

The antenna mast in my Accord is stuck in the UP position. I will not go
down.

1) How do I access the antenna assembly box? From under the wheel well?

2) Can the thing be rewound or do I need a new assembly and mast?

3) Where's a good place to start shopping? If I try Ebay or other online
source, what is a good search enginbe word?

Thanks.

Did you try to clean the dirt out of it and spray some W40 ?.

The plastic cable on the mast probably broke. You can usually replace just
the mast, but many times you'll need to pull the motor out and take off the
cover to remove the piece of broken cable.

The antenna is stuck in the up position. How would I go about cleaning the
dirt out? Also, trying to spray some lubricant would be the last thing before
buying any part because it is the one potential remedy that I have seen
written about that should ~not~ be used. In answer to your questions, no, I
trid none of those workarounds for the above reasons.

Where would I go to get just a mast? Does the mast include the cable (if the
cable is broken, I need a cable, right)? And how do I access the motor
assembly?

You don't need to worry about dirt at the moment... it probably stuck up
because of the broken cable. The cable is part of the mast. You normally
have to go to the dealer to get the mast.

You can go to www.slhonda.com, get the part number for it, and then order it
for a lot cheaper at
www.h-parts.com.

I agree with the posters that told you how to take it apart and fix it.
After you get it fixed, clean the antenna about once a week with three in
one oil or WD 40. This should keep it working and put less stress on the
electric motor.
My 99 Honda Accord has the antenna inside the front window which means I
no longer have to worry about cleaning the antenna. Back to your
problem--if you are not mechanically inclined--take it to a Honda
Dealership and let one of their mechanics fix it for you--for a fee.

I spent about half an hour putting WD40 on it, having it go up and
down, and pulling and pushing on it to help (man, I'm glad we're
talking antennas!).

Anyway, that loosened it up and it is working fine now!

May want to think about getting a can of SILICONE spray. WD-40 has
other solvents and stuff in it that you don't want in the antenna. bob
