Default 1994 accord radio

I bought an 1994 Accord Wagon LX and it appears that the radio does not work
all the time. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't, although the power
lights and display are always on. Also the cassette doen't work when the
radio doesn't work, although you hear the rotation of the cassette
mechanism.
I've heart from a friend that she had the same problem with her Honda.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how it can be fixed? (I don't want
to go to a dealer for a radio worth $25). I prefer not to buy a new radio
because I'll have to sell the car again in 6 months, unless it is a used
Honda one.

Wilfred

It appears that there is a short somewhere in the wiring. This simply
means that there is at least one wire that is not working properly. I know
of at least one case where the insulation or plastic covering the wire had
come off--just a very small piece. When the exposed wire came into contact
with the metal case--the device would not work--the wire would short out.
When it lost contact with the metal case--the device worked great. Once I
place elec. tape on the section of wire--the short problem was solved.
Back to your problem--it would probably cost less to buy a new radio than
to pay someone to take it apart and find the short and repair it. You may
get a better deal at a place that specializes in car radios--they could
even install it for you. The larger stores will give you a better deal.
