Well the BMW inline 6 and the small block Chevy are
good in their own applications - what are you looking for?

We need more information. If the motor in your present vehicle is working
great--any other engine you buy to replace is with is a really bad
investment unless you plan to race the car and make lots of money when you
win.

There is a good magazine about this sort of subject. It's called
Honda Tuning
You can buy it at any large magazine shop. They may have it
at Barnes and Noble.

I'll have to look for the magazine. I'm just checking out things so I can
sorta have an idea of what I want to do to my car. My friend has a Honda
and he says that he wants to trade out his engine for a type R engine. I
was just wondering what the type R was. I think there is like a celica type
R but I dont remember.

It is powerful motor.
Honda Civic Type R has 2.0l motor which
has 200HP.

Try to get a copy of the magazine ASAP. There is an article in the current
issue about how to change out an engine. It's really impossible for the
average person . On the otherhand, if you are a mechanic and have a
shop--it should be fairly easy. It's beyond my back yard mechanical
skills. The magazine has great things to say about the type R engine that
you mentioned.

Well, it depends on what you want from the donk.

If you want performance, then the "Type-R" approach is one way. These cars
typically have revvy beasts of engines with VTEC optimised for performance
rather more than economy, but they need short gearing to get the most from
the engine, otherwise you're always in second and third gear (mind you even
with short gearing, you may well be, heh). The other issue is that a Honda
Type R isn't just about the engine, you also get higher specification
suspension, brakes and other bits and pieces. Replacing a Civic 1.4 with a
highly tuned 1.8 litre donk doesn't give you a Civic Type-R.

However, if you wish to tow, then I'd suggest that this approach isn't
especially suitable.

If you spend a lot of time on the motorway (freeway), then you'll not really
be benefiting from the engine's nature, so you may well find another type of
donk offers a better compromise between driveability, economy and servicing.
