I did something similar on my old 94 civic...I bought the shoes, but when I
actually measured the wear on the pads they still had a lot of life left...I wasn't original owner, so I don't know if they were original shoes or not. I bought the shoes because the car wasn't braking like I thought it should, but some new tires a few months later helped with that. When I was chatting with my former boss about how I hadn't done any brake work in over 30K miles that I had owned the car, he was dumbfounded, apparently he has to replace his pads on his Audi A8 every couple years...of course, once I saw the way he drove, I wasn't surprised...I also wasn't surprised his tranny died at about 80K miles, and cost him over 10K to fix. And the interior of his car smelled worse than anything. Just another reason I'm glad I drive a Honda.
