Hi,
My 1993 Civic has recently developed a "thump-thump-thump..." sound in the rear left corner. It seems like one thump per wheel revolution. It is more noticable at low speeds... once going fast enough you can't hear it at all. I have checked tire pressure but that's about it. Also, no flat spots on tire. Anybody have ideas on what this might be? Anybody ever have a similar sound? Jeff *** To reply by email, do not include SPAMAWAY in the email address wilsonSPAMAWAYjeff72@hotmail.com *** |

Maybe not a flat spot, but can also be hard spot (often caused by an internal failure in the belts). Could also be a dragging brake shoe. Try putting on another tire (eg the spare) and see if the noise goes away. Stewart DIBBS |

Sounds like a bearing going out.

JW,
I have heard similar noises in the past. When it comes to location, I have been confused by the "echo" effect in small unit body and similar construction. If you think that this might be the case try listening for the noise while turning in foward or reverse at low speed in an empty parking lot, (driving in circles). I ended up identifying a failing front wheel drive steering joint in three cases,(different cars). The noise, (and some $), disappeared on replacement or relubricatiob with new boot covers, in all cases. H.
