Default 91 accord drive selector

I've got a 91 Accord SE, 160k miles on it. Love the car. Last week I got
in, started the car, grabbed the drive selector, pulled back, BANG. Though
the selector was in D4, I was still in park. I took the cover off of the
selector and everything seems to be attached at that end. I'm betting
something snapped off at the business end of the cable. Anyone have this
happen to them and how painful was it to fix? Thanks.
