Air horns are widely available and are inexpensive. See "http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40135" Try to get at least 130dB. Ensure that you use a relay (hook the existing horn wires to the relay coil). |

I agree. Bad drivers are bad drivers, and with a louder horn, there's a greater chance that they might respond to it, but I wouldn't count on it. |

If you blow your train horn at some MFFY and it startles him, he might get pissed off and decide to actively block you. -- "It's little sh*ts like you that take my time away from my fiancee and loved ones. I've seen some messaging systems that hang from the back window
or above the license plate. Some display words and others faces. (I could think of fingers too.) I think most states have laws constraining "signal lights" on vehicles and these violate the rules. I know this a point of contention with some souped up cars teens and hispanics use. |

It'd actually be nice if vehicles had a wider choice of sounds, just as they now have different levels of lights (parking, DRL, low beam, high beam, fog lights). A bell sound would be more appropriate for waking up someone that doesn't go when the light turns green, while the loud air horn would be appropriate when someone runs the red light in front of you. I usually give a long blast to drivers that engage in serial red light runnning, (usually after a left turn arrow has long since ended). |

And, of course, "Dixie" would play every time you were about to jump across a washed-out bridge or a big pile of dirt. ![]() -- "It's little sh*ts like you that take my time away from my fiancee and loved ones. For me, all I need to do is have my car's horn make a loud enough sound to get attention, but not be obnoxious. I just went to Pep Boys and had them swap out the factory installed horn with a louder one. I think the who think, including parts and labor was < $50 and only took a few minutes of a mechanic's time. I do like the idea of having a horn where you can set an option for how loud it is and the kind of sound it emits. |
