Default 98 Accord V6...EVAP noise (L. rear) ongoing/persistent now - aftercar OFF

Condition: CAR OFF after up to temp. Any weather as I recall.
-
In the quiet of the night (and you aren't suspecting it) it made me
think a motorcycle was accelerating in the far
distance...brrrrRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr......... tapers down and done.
-
Year or so ago, it seemed random to me. Definitely not persistent.
LAST NIGHT after -key off- I sat in the car for about an hour on the
phone. Same symptom audible inside car time-after-time-after-time at
same interval +/-. About every 40secs. for AT LEAST AN HOUR!
-
-AND YES I have a DTC: P1456 + P0420. 'guessing' that the P0420 was
caused by the 1456 (?)
-
-AND YES I've had the fuel vapour/smell issue for about 6-months (only
noticeable sitting at idle, of course). No ongoing overnight fuel
odor/leaks.
-
Dammmit. Methinks I posted this already? Apologies. But 'then' the
odor was the wory. NOW, the noise is beyond persistent for an hour
after shutdown.
-
Please advise, flame, or redirect accordingly. And THX as always!!!

Semi-normal. EVAP tests run even after shutdown.

No. They are totally unrelated.

Where do you live? If anywhere that has snow in winter, you probably have
corrosion on certain parts of the EVAP system, specifically the electrical
control-solenoids.

Honda, for some bizarre reson, installed the highly-complex and extremely-
sensitive EVAP system under the car, at the rear, just where moisture and
salt buildup are the worst.

I have compiled a list of Honda EVAP diagnostics documents, here:
<http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/misc/evap-diag/>

If you feel like taking a shot in the dark, you can replace the gas cap
with a new Honda one (NOT aftermarket!). This usually does not fix a P1456,
but people seem to want to try that first.

when you re-fuel, does the filler cap come off easily? if so, try a new
one - and make sure it screws down tight by pushing down as you turn.
[and after-market stant caps are better than honda in this regard.]
despite what the tsb says, this will cure your evap code.
