Default 2000 Accord valve cover gasket.

I was told there was a slight bit of seepage.....$225 to replace the
gasket by the dealer> Necessary? Important= 70K on the car It was a
YELLOW warning on my last visit to the dealer. thanks for any info. mm

You posted this identical message on the 5th, to rec.autos.makers.honda.

Below is a copy of reply to that posting:
"You don't absolutely positively /need/ to replace it, but the seepage will
eventually make a real mess of your engine, and eventually your driveway."

Was that an insufficient response? If so, say so.

The seepage is often the result of another problem. The valve cover
gasket is the weakest gasket in the oil system, and if there is an
over-pressure problem, generally caused by a clogged PCV valve, it's the
first to go. At only 70K miles it should not be seeping unless there is
(or was) another problem).

An independent shop would probably charge about $125 for the job. The
gasket itself is around $20. $225 is a bargain price for this job done
by a dealer, I would have expected a dealer to charge at least $300.
