They charge more and give you less warranty after a certain amount of
mileage and time.... I think 1 year 15k miles. All aspects of extended service contracts are negotiable, including
cost. Most "standard policies" cost the dealer less than $500. If the dealer (or dealer group) is underwriting the policy, the cost is even less. Think of the extended service contract as a hedge bet, on your cars usable life. Like any bet, you lose most of the time.
