Does anyone have a rough idea of what it would cost to repair a rather nasty
scratch/dent in the rear left quarter panel of my car? It's 1998 Civic. Someone in a parking lot backed into me (how rude), and I only noticed it leaving the shopping mall parking lot. The scratch is roughly 2 feet long, along mostly following the upper edge of the wheel well, and into the edge of the door. It's rather dented and the paint has been removed to bare metal in a number of places. Furthermore it seems that the sheet metal was torn leaving a few small gashes. I imagine this would necessitate replacing the quarter panel all together. |

I researched replacing a front quarter panel on a friend's
99 Civic last year. FWIW, one can get a good price for a new OEM quarter panel from www.slhonda.com . Problem is, this sort of body part is so unwieldy to ship that packaging and handling cost a fortune, so it's about as cheap to buy it from one's local honda dealer. Double check me on that, of course. slhonda.com 's clerks are very helpful. The warning I saw on aftermarket quarter panels was that they would be less expensive but may not be an exact match and may very well not fit perfectly. You can call around local junkyards and see if they have one, though then a paint job may be necessary. Or ISTM the best bet may be to order one from your local Honda dealer and have a body shop put it on. Or you might be able to do it yourself, if you're handy. Get quotes on Monday from some body shops. -- TeGGeR® The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |
