Okay, you are lucky you did not come to my shop for an oil change, as my boss would tell you they are on a first come first serve basis and if your schedule conflicts with ours, find another shop. Had I recieved a letter from you about you showing up 5 minutes before closing time and demanding service, you would not like my response -- legzzalot ----------------------------------------------------------------------- View this thread: http://www.carstalk.net/viewtopic-352319.htm Send from http://www.carstalk.ne |

This was a no-appointment-necessary, 10-minute-lube joint. There were no other customers. If the monkeys were any good at their job at all, they shouldn't have needed to stay more than five minutes overtime. --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. You should have been earlier. |

So you admit you went to a 10-minute lube joint with 5-minutes to spare before closing, and expected the supplier to service you anyway, knowing full well they'd have to work at least five minutes past close. Not only that, YOU ARE STUPID. Guys! Damn. The place isn't open until 10 til 6; why don't they close then? If they aren't serving customers, why not close their doors at a quarter til? The answer is that they are - or they are supposed to. I have a 'computer' job. I shut down my machines 5 to 15 minutes before I leave, most days. If I've got something specific that needs to be done, I don't start shutting down until after quitting time. Can you honestly say you would tell your boss you can't do what he asked you to, because at 10 til 5 you're getting ready to leave? I wouldn't. That's part of doing business, anywhere you go. If you walk in to Wal-mart at 3 til 9 (OK, most of 'em are open 24 hours now, I know), you still feel like you should be able to grab what you need and go to the checkout, don't you? No, you don't do it every time, but it happens. You guys are being not only being hard on this guy, but you're wrong. If a business closes ten minutes before the posted closing time, they lock their doors and put a 'Closed' sign up. If not, it's *not* unreasonable to expect normal service. RFT!!! Dave Kelsen -- |

I am a pharmacist & when I formerly worked in retail, we naturally had clerks paid by the hour. They were paid until closing at 9 PM. I would neither expect them to work for free nor was I authorized to pay them OT. At around 8:50 PM, I would give one of the clerks the key to the door, have them lock it & stand there to let the customers out who were still in the store when they finished shopping. I would proceed to count out the registers, etc., so everyone got out by 9 PM. During the 10 minute lock down people would come to the door. The clerk was instructed to inquire if they had a prescription. If they did, they were admitted & received their prescription. All others were turned away. Rich |

Anyway, obviously the manager of the store disagreed with ALL of you, given his abject apologies and offer of a free oil change. --- avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean. Stupid? Stupid would be sitting counting the minutes to see how much I could make them jump. When the only option is to wait for the wife's commuter train to get in, and her to get home with the van, then leave immediately and fight my way through rush-hour traffic to try to get to the shop on time...? --- avast! No, you don't do it every time, but it happens. I do CCTV installs and maintenance. My job is the same. If I have to stay late to get a job done, then I have to stay late... only if it's a significant amount of work left can I schedule to come back the next day. NO customer is going to be impressed if you tell them, "I have a whole ten minutes' worth of work left, so I'm gonna leave now because it's five o'clock, and be back tomorrow." > You guys are being not only being hard on this guy, but you're wrong. What is your problem then (beside the obvious)? |
