Um, check engine lights come on for a reason, not because you crossed over
the 10,000 mile mark. Although, you are due for an oil change.

To quote many great and knowledgeable men, 'Read the Owners Manual'.

well, isn't that ballsy.

Not only does he want to be spoon-fed the information that's clearly in
his (unused) owner's manual, he doesn't even want to be bothered to
check the newsgroup for the answer--where if anything, it should be
posted as a resource for the world to see.

Read the ****ing owner's manual that you got with your shiny new $15,000
toy. Then read it again.

Anyone in this newsgroup who gives you the answer to this easily researched
question should be drummed out.

Just read the ****ing manual or Google or search this (and others)
newsgroup.

The only answer to the question he asked is the one that I gave.

Q: Anyone know how to turn off the 10,000 mile 'check engine' light
sign -2005 civic
A: check engine lights come on for a reason, not because you crossed over
the 10,000 mile mark.

D'oh! I missed that it's the Check Engine light (MIL), NOT the Maintenance
Required light!

Is this the Maintenance Required light, or the Malfunction Indicator Lamp?
This is an important distinction.

If the former, see my earlier post. If the latter, it is most assuredly NOT
because you hit 10,000 miles.

Since your expensive new car is UNDER WARRANTY, ignorance of the
Malfunction Indicator Lamp may VOID YOUR WARRANTY on account of abuse.
Take it in to the dealer. If there is a problem, chances are about 99.9% it
will be covered under the warranty that you paid for as part of the
purchase price of the car. You would not believe how expensive some of the
emissions components are that can go bad early in the car's life.

If, however, you really enjoy throwing away money and potentially wrecking
that $15,000 investment you've made, then by all means go to AutoZone, get
them to turn off the light, then drive blissfully offf into the sunset.

Since the OP said 10,000 miles, perhaps he was the one who confused one with
the other. Maybe he did mean the Maintenance Required light.
