I have a 2000 Ody LX, and a friend of mine has a 2001 Ody LX. In the span of
about 6 weeks- BOTH our trannys went (thankfully under wty!) Mine had only
70,000 kms, and my buddy's had 102,000 kms.
The "problem" with those trannys has been rectified with the replacements
and I'm sure the 2005's are OK, but does anyone know if the problem has been
corrected within that generation ('03/'04) of the Ody where they are still
using the original?
Also, I have a 2000 Civic HB with an auto tranny; can I expect it to go as
well...it's off wty ;>(

No, it wasn't.

You're getting a functional but badly designed replacement transmission,
with the same flaws you had before.

Some people are on their third and fourth transmissions.

internals, including updated clutch packs.

Uh, yup.

Some things are different, many things are the same.

That's why plenty of people are still replacing them.

Since you do know what you are talking about, why not tell us how the
transmissions are failing and what parts are different and which parts are
the same in the remanufactured transmissions. Some us would like to
understand the problem and solutions. If you have some real info, please
provide it.

they replace all internals and install heavier duty clutch packs. At
one time people complained about harsh shifts, so the lengthend the
shift iming which slipped the clutches, causing premature wear.
for those of you who haven't had one of these aprt a honda tranny
is a hydraulicaly shifted manual transmission. It has several multi
disk wet clutches. no bands or planetary gears like the domestics.
most of the multiple faiure issues come from people who install
a tow hitch without installing a tranny cooler, or when replacing the
tranny not flushing the cooler that is in the radiator . I've seen
tranny replacement denied when there is a hitch installed with no
additional cooler installed.
I have easily done a 80 trannys in the last 3 years and
haven't had one come back yet for another
At least Honda came forward and extended the warranty period
unlike chrysler who are famous for crappy trannys.

interesting! you'd think they'd accompany that by a doing the ignition
retard thing in the ecu as well, being as that would take a good chunk
of the load off, but i guess not.
