I have a 99 honda accord ex coupe, I recently had takin out my fuelpump/fuel
sendin unit assembly. The probelm is when i put it back in and started my
car up the fuel gauge started going up to about 3/4 full. but i actually had
less than a 1/4 tank, well i finally went back down but still seemed alittle
high. So i had taken out the pmump again checked the sendin unit and nothin
seems to be blocking the arm or anything. Well i filled my tank up and the
needle went up lioke normal but i have been driving around and the needle
has droped down alittle like normal, BUT just now the needle just maxed
out. Heres some ?'s I have.
1. When you turn the car off is the needle suppose to fall to empty until
you give your car power?
2. If not, I had the connector that plugs to the pump off, and had then neg
cable off, the needle stayed at like 1/4 tank, before i filled it back up.
Was that normal?
3. want kinda of test do i need to do to figure this out?

no.

if you have the sender out of the tank, connect it up and move the float
up & down. the needle should follow - slowly. if it's not giving you
full gauge travel, either the sender is defective or the gauge is.

i had a similar problem with the needle not falling below 3/4, even when
empty. turned out that the car had been rear ended and even though it
looked fine from the outside, one of the tank baffles inside was bent
and it was stopping the float from moving properly. changed the tank,
problem disappeared.

hey man i appreciate the help, tonight i was driving and now it max's out
and stays their, well im going to connect it and move that float and see
what happens. should i hookup the multimeter and see the resistance?

Is it possible to reinstall the unit in just one position, or in several?
For example, if there's six evenly spaced bolts, can the unit be fitted
rotated one bolt hole from the correct position?

no. it's got a keyway holding it in one position. even if you could
move it, you still have the baffles in the tank which the float would foul.

Heres the update, I checked it out today, see when i pulled it out the fuel
sending unit was dangling from the pump, well i thought it was normal
therefore i put it bac kthe same way, well the float got caught up on the
sock filter, well i attached the unit to the pump then hooked up ohm meter,
was reading resistenace, and reinstalled it, I will repost later if anymore
problems, I filled the tank all the way up, I will see at half if its
acuarate ornot , again THANKYOU guys for the help.
