hey this is probably a stupid question but i tried to take my bolts
off my brake calipers the other day and apparently they are extremely rusted and my socket wrench as well as my regular wrench will not take them off (almost to the point where it might strip them). someone told me i need a specific shape and size of socket for my socket wrench. can anyone tell me which size and shape or what specific socket i need for my socket wrench to take off the rear and front bolts on my calipers so i can change these screaming break pads? this is for a 93 honda prelude S (non-vtec) thanks -- Posted using the http://www.autoforumz.com interface, at author's request Articles individually checked for conformance to usenet standards Topic URL: http://www.autoforumz.com/Honda-brak...ict125906.html Visit Topic URL to contact author (reg. req'd). A six-pointer. They're a bit hard to find for the home user. http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/rusty...e_6pointer.jpg Mine came from a Snap-On truck and cost $35 Cdn. But you can always use a 6-point socket (if it will fit), which is a *lot* easier to find. > can anyone tell me which size and shape or what specific socket i need > for my socket wrench to take off the rear and front bolts on my > calipers so i can change these screaming break pads? Here's a fairly comprehensive howto. (I haven't got around to shrinking the pics, yet, so wait a bit for the pages to load). http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/rustybrakes/brakes1.html -- TeGGeR® The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

UGH! your rust climate is just a nightmare. you should come down here and do some junk yard surfing some time tegger. it'll blow you away to see the condition of some cars. worn out? sure. rusted? nope! regarding wrenches, i use 6-sided flank drive sockets for that job. work just fine. > > But you can always use a 6-point socket (if it will fit), which is a *lot* > easier to find. > > > > >>can anyone tell me which size and shape or what specific socket i need >>for my socket wrench to take off the rear and front bolts on my >>calipers so i can change these screaming break pads? > > > > Here's a fairly comprehensive howto.
