Default Crazy issue with acceleration- 89 Accord

Hello everyone,
Not a huge car person, but I have a small bit of basic knowledge of
cars. I’m having this crazy issue with my 89 Accord. When I’m driving
(at various speeds, usually while accelerating) my engine abruptly
starts jerking and then the car pretty much stalls out. If you press
on the gas, it does nothing and still stalls out. Just had the
carburator replaced. Fuel filters as well. Spark plugs brand new. Any
ideas? This is starting to suck.
Also, it doesn’t do it all the time, sometimes I can drive 65 and it’s
fine. Help!

Hot days or cold, full tank or nearly empty, humid or dry, and what's
the mileage? Have you tried running some Gasohol thru it in case it's
just WATER in the gas?

Steinmart,
It's possible that you got a tank of gasoline that had water or other
stuff in it. If so, the problem won't go away until you use all of that
gas. Don't ever get gas at that station again. You may also need to
install a new fuel filter after you use all of the gas that is now in the
tank.

You might try a bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol in the gas tank the next
time you fill up. If there is water in the tank, this will evaporate the
water. Give it about a tank before you see results. Also, stay away from
any gas station that has a tanker refuelling the gas station. This is the
best chance to get water in your tank.

I have an '87 Accord LX-i (fuel-injected) and I have had a similar problem
(my problem was with occationally the car not starting after turning the car
off for a few minutes, but after a couple additional minutes it would start
again), as recommended by Pat Gauss of Motoroweek on PBS, I put about 16 oz.
of 99% isopropyl alcohol in my full tank of gas, and it appears to have
solved the stalling problem.

I was like you, getting all those things replaced and still not solving the
problem. The Honda dealership couldn't even find what the problem was.
Since I used the alcohol, it has not stalled since. Make sure you use 99%
isopropyl alcohol to avoid any additional problems with your fuel delivery.

I hope this helps.
