Just bought a new Civic EX automatic. I'm pretty meticulous about
maintenance, particularly oil changes. There's an interesting statement in the break-in section of the owner's manual. It specifically states to not change the oil the first time, until it's actually due. Does anyone have any idea as to why that is? For the few new cars I've owned, I've always changed it the first 1,500-2,000 miles. But Honda's saying not to do that. Anyone know why that might be? I'll certainly not change it early, if Honda says it, but it puzzles me as to why. Thanks! |

It's been that way for quite awhile now. |

Additives in the factory oil (break-in oil) that should remain in the system for the specified period. |
