Hi All, new to the group. We just picked up a very clean '99 Civic EX
2-door automatic for my daughter's first car. Lately it's been shuddering, slipping a shifting harshly, mostly when pulling away from a stop. Seems to run OK once up to speed though. Coincident with this behavior the CEL illuminates. Retrieving the error code with a scanner reveals a code "PO730 - Gear Ratio Incorrect" is present. This seems to be consistent with the poor shifting performance. Any clues as to what's wrong? Automatic transmissions are scary things as they are usually very expensive to fix. -- -WJB |

Heads-up on what mine does. Just a thought. Does this sound familiar with your Civic?
First of all is transmission fluid up to proper level? Second, I notice with my wife's 96 Civic EX auto (I'm a left foot on the brake driver) and if I don't release my foot from the brake completely before pushing the gas peddle when pulling away from a stop, the car doesn't take off properly and is sluggish at first then a little clunk and back to normal. It seems to take off in second gear if I over-lap the brake with gas peddle. You only have to touch the brake peddle enough to light up the brake lights or brake light switch is very sensitive (adjustable) and it sends a signal to computer. That said, you are showing a transmission code so put your question to Honda tech blogs. There are lots out there if you search the net a little. Good luck.
