I have a 2000 Civic Si. I purchased it new and have kept up with the
maintinence. Recently I noticed that when I depress the clutch pedal and when I release it, a horrible squeaking sound is made. I've checked the fluid levels and all of those were normal. It sounds like it may be coming from the transmission area when the hood is raised and the clutch is depressed. It seems to be driving okay, I haven't noticed a change in gear shifting or a slip in the clutch. Does anyone know what this sound may be? |

I don't know your car, but typically there's a bearing on the clutch that allows the pressure from the clutch pedal to be applied to the clutch plate. When the clutch is disengaged (normal driving) it is under minimal stress. It could last years, or break tomorrow, in which case you could do damage trying to shift, or else simply be unable to shift. I'd get to a transmission shop for a more thorough evaluation. |

Usually it is not that expensive a job, but be ready for around $300. If you are not really mechanically inclinded that is the way to go, not to mention warranty, however, changing it yourself is also an option, and would probably only cost you around $100 plus your blood, sweat, and tears.
