Honda Car Forum

Please Help,

I just got my Honda back after it was stolen and the distributor was
missing.

Therefore after purchasing and installing the new distributor and even
changing the starter, the car still would not start....

I can hear the starter and the engine will turn over a little but will not
crank. Any ideas ???

if the engine will not turn over very well the battery may be dead.
either charge the battery and try again or get someone to jump start it
if that is available.

what do you mean by it turns over a little bit? can the engine
physically turn over at all?

Yes, I can tell the crank moved a little because piston number 1 is no
longer at TDC when try to start it.

Could it be that when I installed the distributor , I set it to TDC on the
exhaust stroke instead of the compression stroke?

Even tho, I was under the impression that it can start without a distributor

Not sure what you mean but I can tell piston 1 moved a little because it was
at TDC

if the engine wont turn over you may have bigger problems, you can turn
over the engine manually with a wrench on the flywheel side (drivers),
behind the wheel on the inside of the fender there should be a small
opening to access the flywheel with a werench, 17mm i think. it will
sort of thud over as it compresses but you should be able to turn it
over without very much effort. to tell if the engine is at tdc in the
ignition stroke without a service manual you have to remove the valve
cover and look to see that both valves are closed on the no. 1 cilinder
(both rocker arms will be loose it it is closed), then make sure the
distrubutor is positioned at no. 1.

Yes I have turned the engine over as you described before the place Piston 1
at TDC.....

The crank seems to turn over but does not fire up.....
