Hi guys I have a 99 Civic and in the winter only it will idle
really low after driving for over 10 minutes. When I stop at a red light it even stalled 3 times last winter. It never happens in the summer though... only in the winter. I sprayed the plugs and cap with water like someone told me right when I start it but it didn't make it idle low... only after the car warms up it seems to happen. Then if it stalls or I shut it off... then turn it back on... it's fine... for another little while. Please fix my car =) |

I have the same problem with my '94 Civic. The colder it is the lower
the idle speed (after warm-up that is). I don't know of a real fix, but turning on the headlights seems to bump up the idle enough to make the car drivable. There is an ELD (Electric Load Detector) in the under-hood fuse box and when the ELD signals the ECM that the current draw is over a certain threshold the ECM bumps up the idle speed by about 100 RPM. Another words, the ECU gets a message from sensors but ECU ignores message and won't response to the low idle's request. However, the ELD circuit appears functional. This might require troubleshooting the EACV, ECU, or sensors. Unless you have proper tools, I would suggest cleaning it or tap on it and see if it budges. |
