I know that I feel a surge of power on my 02 Civic Ex with auto trans at
4500, give or take a few hundered rpm. I've heard that manual trans cars are programmed closer to 5000 rpm. Tom "Anonymous" <none@none.com> wrote in message news:8hxJa.177575$3Sm.166980@news01.bloor.is.net.c able.rogers.com... > When does the Vtec kick-in on the 1.7 Civic Ex? > > |

I feel no surge of power with my '99 Si, but I do get a deeper exhaust note at around 6500 rpms and it pulls steadily to the 8k redline. -- Mark '99 Civic Si > > Tom > > > "Anonymous" <none@none.com> wrote in message > news:8hxJa.177575$3Sm.166980@news01.bloor.is.net.c able.rogers.com... > > When does the Vtec kick-in on the 1.7 Civic Ex? > > > > > > |

My VTEC kicks in around 3800 - 4200. redline is about 59. BE CAREFUL
with the usage of the VTEC. If you have one and are running a car with i'd say 80000 + miles and you consistanly like to get that grin on your face from beating your engine. You are bound to have valve problems. I just had to replace my uppper and lower valves, springs and rockers. But ofcourse mine is a high performance machine and not a family car. Cant really talk about throttle response or anything because i have so many other performace parts on it. But my 2.2 L VTEC is nice. 1995 Honda Accord EX |

In the 2001 Civic EX engine, there are two VTEC switch points. The first
VTEC switch point is at 2500. Here the engine goes from economy mode (3 valves) to normal (4 valves). I can't quite figure out where the high-rpm VTEC switch point is. In any case, the high rpm VTEC switch point is there to keep the engine from running out of breath, not to give it a boost like the more sporty VTEC engine models. The 1.7 engine is great on fuel, but pretty miserable for mid-range pull. |

2.2 L VTEC In my Honda kicks in the VTEC for more HP at just about 3100
After reading this post I went and ran some checks. Anytime I push the throttle half way or 3/4 . It will pop from 3100 - 3500. But if im in the low range RPMs and floor it goes to about 3100- 3200 on up to red line. |
