Hi,
Does anyone out there keep a bra (or "full nose mask") on their car most, or all of the time? I'm thinking about getting one because the paint chips from highway driving are driving me nuts, but I've heard that they can cause paint problems. I'm in Canada (around Toronto), so any experiences with these things in winter conditions would be highly relevant... Also, I'm thinking of getting it from Majestic Honda online (www.hondaautomotiveparts.com). Any good/bad experiences with these guys? Thanks! |

You can pretty much *double* the US$ price you see on US websites, by the time the part is in your hot, little hands in Canada and paid for, in CDN$. |

Not sure if they have changed any but I had one many years ago. about
15-20. It did cause paint problems. The biggest problem is that dirt gets between the bra and the car paint which rubs its way into the paint over time. There is vibration and flapping from the wind which rubs the dirt right into the car. I had rub and scratch marks where the bra was tighter against the car. worse in winter due to salt and ashes on icy roads. not sure if the materials have changed but I would think it would still do the same thing over time. I've tried searches on driverfx before, but it doesn't seem 100% reliable when you search for parts by the type of car... |

That sounds like it would cause problems, especially where I drive in winter - the place is covered in snow, ice and salt for several months, and to make matters worse, I park in a heated underground garage at work. Which is fantastic for me the human being, but all the accumulated crud that would have piled up under the bra would probably melt into a mess, and who knows what it would do when it refroze outside... and I've heard that the salt is most corrosive at above-zero temps. (ack... the rest of the car!) Maybe just the half-bra would be a better idea, since it covers the area that seems to pick up the most paint chips... at this rate, I'd probably be looking at having something painted around that area eventually, bra or no. Or maybe I need to start applying wax the way I'm supposed to... haven't done it since summer last year!! well, thanks for the info! |

I have seen posts in the past indicating that when the bra is removed when it's time to trade in or trade the car--the paint under the bra is of a different shade or color than the paint on the rest of the car. The sun and weather causes the paint on the rest of the car to fade but the paint under the bra is never exposed to the sun so that paint does not fade. In other words--it's hard to resell or trade in such a car. As one poster said--the problem is compounded in those area where there is lots of snow and salt. |
