I am a broke college student and am looking at a car. The one I am looking at is a 1986 Civic Hatchback. The car has 310,000 miles on it. The plus side is it will cost me only about $450. It seems to run good but, the guy said it needs a new REM/FI
chip, whatever the heel that is. When you start it the revs go up and down he said this chip would handle that issue. Other than that and the normal wear and tear on a 20+ year old car it seems to be a solid vehicle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Adam |

300k miles is a lot of miles on a Honda. I have seen more, but with the high mileage comes the higher likelihood of needing work and parts.
As for the surging idle, there are a few things you could check-- - Make sure there is no air in the coolant system, or that the fluid is full. - Check your FITV and the IACV on the intake manifold. Often times these need adjusted, cleaned, or replaced. - Check for vacuum leaks. The price is right for the car, but the high mileage might produce a problem if you are planning to keep the car for more than any decent amount of time. |
