Angry Problems w/08 Accord v6 ex-L

First off, let me say this. The 08 Accord with the v6 is really doggy. My former 04 Accord w/v6 would blow this new car away with performance, fuel mileage, and handling.

I've got about 1600 miles on my 08 and have had problems ever since I bought it and neither Honda nor the dealership where I purchased my car will respond.

My first problem is the driver's seat. I have the 8-way power seat but there is no adjustment for the rear of the seat bottom. Thus, my butt feels like it is sitting in a hole and there is no support. There is no adjustment. I have to hold myself up with my left leg to keep from sliding further into the hole. I've showed the problem to the service manager and to the customer relations person but they more or less walked away and will not help me fix this problem. It is now a safety issue since I am constantly fidgeting in the seat and from time to time, my eyes are taken off the road while I readjust myself in my seat which could cause an accident. My back is numb with pain within 15 minutes of driving. I've notified Honda's customer care and they told me that the seat cannot be modified. So, I then informed Honda and the dealership that if I am involved in any accident, then I will hold them personally responsible and will sue since it is a flaw in their precious system to which they could easily fix but won't.

My second gripe is the performance. When I slow down to about 5mph to go around a corner, the transmission will not shift to 1st gear...it remains in either 2nd or 3rd and it is very slow to get going. I've tried everything short of stopping to get it to shift to 1st gear and nothing works. I'm getting horrible fuel mileage too...21.5 mpg on the highway at 80mph. My former 04 Accord V6 ex-L got 28mpg at 80mph. If I come up on someone that is driving about 45 and I floor it, the car sits there...thinking for several seconds...then it shifts to 3rd...not 2nd like my previous 04 accord.

The new shift hold control is horrible. If I floor it until I reach 60 or 70 or 75 or any high speed and then decide to let off so as to maintain a particular speed, this shift hold control will not let the transmission shift into a higher gear and it actually slows me down for about 5 seconds thus dropping about 10-15mph before it finally shifts and then I have to give it gas again to get back to the speed I wanted.

I also noticed the gas tank is bigger than the owner's manual says it is. The manual says the gas tank is 18.5 gallons but I have filled up with 19.8 gallons several times and no spillage anywhere. Based on the assumption that this new 08 Accord has a 2.5 reserve when the fuel light activates, my tank must hold somewhere in the neighborhood of 22 gallons.

The dealership says it is impossible for my car to hold so much gas....BUT...this same dealership will not certify the gas tank's capacity. I spoke to the managers at the gas stations where I've filled up and asked them if it were possible that the pumps were off which could result in wrong readings and they told me that their pumps were recently recertified and they showed me their results which showed their pumps were pumping and showing the correct amount. The local Bureau of Weights and Measures told me that my gas tank needs to be certified which will then show the "REAL" capacity.

I wish now that I would not have traded my 04 Accord. This new 08 is horrible.

I was planning to buy this car but due to this....."I've tried everything short of stopping to get it to shift to 1st gear and nothing works. I'm getting horrible fuel mileage too...21.5 mpg on the highway" NO WAY!

The fuel mileage is getting worse. I've got 1960 miles and I've checked my mpg several times and it has been slowly decreasing towards 21.

I finally received a response from the dealership where I bought this car in reference to the gas tank capacity but they, as usual, have again given me a canned response...telling me that it is written in the manual that I am not supposed to overfill or fill my tank to its capacity for fear of electrical problems, computer problems, or fire from leakage. I responded to them that if they didn't want me or anyone else to fill our cars tanks to capacity then they should have put some sort of blockage into the system to prevent us from doing so. I also informed them that their problems are based mainly on problems associated with the Model A and T from the 20's which were known for fire problems from overfill or filling to capacity.

I then asked the factory rep and the dealership that if they could totally say, without a doubt, that the overfilling of a tank or filling to capacity caused the problems they claim...then why isn't it stated clearly as such on the sticker and also warnings to the general public via public awareness announcements on tv? As usual, they more or less declined to answer by giving the normal canned response which is....the manual says...!

If overfill or filling to capacity causes the problems, then why haven't my friends and family ever witnessed any of these so-called problems? We've been filling to capacity ever since we were old enough to drive and that has been since the mid 60's.

And then I finally asked the reps, what does filling to capacity have to do with getting poor gas mileage? As usual, a canned repsonse. Go figure!
