1991 Honda Accord 2 door

I have a 91 Accord for sale...has some mods, but needs work. This car
has a Bully Stage 2 clutch, a cold air intake kit, new muffler and
full exhaust. It needs new brakes (lines I think), a windshield washer
container and pump. The hood was new, but since it sat all winter last
year, it rusted. The car starts, but idles a little strangely. This
car is a sleeper...if you want a fast car, this is the one. If you are
interested in this car...either for parts or as a lot, call me day or
night.

Sell parts or as a lot for $500.

Probably worth looking at the following reference:

Certain areas in Wisconsin require reformulated gasoline. If you are
in the Milwaukee area, the gasoline almost certainly includes 10%
ethanol (see
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/fuels/r...erf/mil-wi.htm ).

Apparently there is at significant anti-ethanol sentiment in
Wisconsin. There is actually a web site listing stations that sell
Ethanol free gas (
http://www.molonyrealestate.com/Etha...Wisconsin.html )
.. The list did not include any "Road Ranger" or "Pilot" stations.

As for differences in fuel mileage when using ethanol "enhanced"
gasoline - at leaat in theory gasoline with 10% ethanol should have
about 1.5% less energy than "pure" gasoline, but in practice the
difference can be less. And at least for engines designed to tolerate
gasoline with 10% ethanol, I think the difference in fuel economy is
probably even less. However for older vehicles (particualrly
carburetted vehicles) the difference in mileage can be much more
significant. For people with recent vehciels (bult since 2000) I doubt
the difference in fuel economy between straight gasoline and gasoline
with 10% ethanol is detectable using typical calculation methods. With
a dynamoter and careful measurements you could detect the difference,
but for ordingary driving and calcualtions using pump fills, there are
just too many factors to make an accurate determination feasible.

Na�ao sam ovo na jednoj news grupi i odlu�io isprobati. Prije par
tjedana, pretra�ivao sam newsgrupe i nai�ao sam na �lanak sli�an
ovome u kojem je pisalo da mo�ete zaraditi tisu�e dolara u samo PAR
TJEDANA sa samo malim ulogom od 30 kn! Pomislio sam, "Da ba�, ovo

newsgrupa (Ima ih na tisu�e!). Nema kvake, to je to. Pa sam nakon malo
razmi�ljanja, i savjetovanja s prijateljima, odlu�io poku�ati.
Me�utim kako u Hrvatskoj vise nema u opticaju nov�anica od 5 kn, ja
sam odlu�io staviti 10 kn. Mislio sam "�to imam izgubiti osim 6
markica i 60 kn, zar ne?" Zatim sam ulo�io tih bijednih 60 kn I
POGODITE �TO!?... u roku od 7 dana, po�eo sam dobivati novac po�tom!
Bio sam zaprepa�ten! Pomislio sam da �e s tim biti ubrzo gotovo,

Sve sto morate je oti�i na razne newsgrupe i poslati �lanak, kad Vam

All gasoline blend stocks used to formulate the base fuel shall be
representative of normal U.S. refinery operations and shall be derived
from conversion units downstream of distillation. Butanes and pentanes
are allowed for vapor pressure adjustment. The use of chemical streams
is prohibited. The base fuel shall have the following specific
properties after the addition of ethanol:

1. Contain enough denatured ethanol such that the actual ethanol
content is no less than 8.0 and no more than 10.0 volume percent.

of gas per day here in the u.s. anyone here good at business math?
what's the return on investment for showing up in washington with a few
million to, er, "lobby" our representatives for, er, "low emissions"
[10% ethanol] fuel? [factor in that ethanol enjoys producer tax breaks
too.]

and biodiesel - ever wondered why the owners of the distribution and
sales infrastructure can't be heard uttering a cheep in protest against
this stuff? could the fact that biodiesel has significantly lower
calorie content thereby increasing sales volumes have anything to do
with it?

bottom line - it's all about money and power - and continuation of same.
if there ever were actual intent to address consumption, emissions or
energy security, we'd all switch to diesel - much higher calorie content
and better thermodynamic efficiency means lower consumption and
therefore less of our money going overseas to despots and terrorism
sponsors.

2003 Civic SRS Experience

I had an opportunity to buy a 2003 Civic LX with 81k miles on it
several weeks ago at a great price, and I did. At the time of
purchase, one of the door locks did not work, and the SRS indicator
light was on. I fixed the door lock easily, replacing the lock's
cylinder plates etc. Then I started on the SRS system. The title is
clean and there were no indications of an accident. I researched a lot
on the internet and with shop manuals (free at my public library along
with bits and pieces posted at various web site). I made some tools
for a few dollars to re-set the SRS memory and read the SRS code being
thrown. I re-set the SRS memory often while I was figuring out how to
read codes on the cheap. Once I got my tools together and figured out
what two connectors I needed to find under the dash for (1) re-setting
the SRS memory and (2) reading codes, things became easy.

Only one code was being thrown, Code 9-3. This is for a faulty
driver's seat belt buckle switch. Knowing the code and so thinking
this would very likely be covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt
warranty, I reported to my dealer. My dealer reads codes for free, but
subsequent repairs may not be. My dealer was great: The service
department read the code, assured me the repair was covered under
warranty, and ordered the part. Less than two days I was driving home
with the new seat belt buckle installed. I asked to keep the old
buckle (for tinkering, ya know) but the dealer said they needed to
turn it over to Honda as part of the warranty procedure.

One of the Service Department fellows said his understanding is that
this seat belt buckle switch wears /by design/ so people do come in
periodically [every several years] to get a new seat belt buckle. The
idea being it preserves the integrity of the seat belt as a restraint
and so saves Honda from lawsuits. I do not know if this is true or
not. Since I had an experience with my 1991 Civic's seat belt in 2001
or so and the dealer fixed it without question, it seems to me that
the lifetime seat belt warranty is something Honda seems to hold
sacred.

From reading on the net, SRS light problems seem to come up a lot with

How tight is the bulb clamped in there? If the contacts are loose you can
get arcing that will shorten the bulb's life.

And are these aftermarket or OEM bulbs?

I'd say yes, but that means going through, probably, the same reams of
data. The only reason I know about it is because it hit my neighbor
and I went in and asked "is there a TSB out on this?" I may have to

IMO, the question becomes where one chooses to draw the line. For many
parts I will not settle for less than OEM. For others, I will go
aftermarket without a second thought. I have yet to have a problem with
a decent aftermarket thermostat that I haven't had with an OEM
thermostat, and the both seem to last about the same length of time. In
fact, I seem to recall that the thermostat in my 1991 Accord is a
decade-or-so-old aftermarket one, and it works just fine. Cheap ones
are pretty obviously cheap ones, and I don't use them unless there is no
choice (and then I plan to replace them quickly).

Maybe I've been lucky, but I have been working on cars for a long time
(and did so professionally for a few years when I was in my 20's, which
was a Long Time ago), and this is not a one-off experience.

Honda's OEM quality is not always impeccable, either. I'm not sure how
many exhaust pipes I've replaced over the years on my '91 but the dealer
did the first one under warranty (!) and decent aftermarket (e.g.,
Bosal) pipes last easily as long as the Honda ones at a lower price.
There is likewise no reason I can discern to buy Honda brake pads or
rotors or axles. Honda electrical parts of this vintage are prone to
cold solder joints over time, and I don't know whether they ever
re-spec'ed the solder or procedures to fix that, but I do know that
things like aftermarket alternators and starters (and I have seen a cold
solder joint in an original OEM Honda starter that I repaired by
reflowing it) have proved quite reliable.

The local dealer is very cooperative in being competitive for most parts
with aftermarket prices, so as it happens I usually buy OEM for the
Accord (and did likewise for the '90 Civic) but I am not wedded to the
notion that all OEM parts are substantially superior to all aftermarket
parts, as it's simply not the case in my experience.
