Hi,
We have been doing some canoeing and kayaking lately. This raises the problem of going over with my RSX key in my pocket. Can it be water damaged by a dunking? This wasn't a problem with my previous cars that had plain, metal keys. Thanks, Gary |

Gary Brown's question is a fair one and I wish I knew the answer. The transmitter (with buttons on it) will definitely get damaged if it gets wet. A key with an embedded chip and no pushbuttons? Not sure. I guess it would depend on the integrity of the join between the key's plastic head to its shaft. -- Tegger The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

Can it be water damaged by a dunking? does it use a battery? if not, then it can be submerged. if you're still worried, use a ziploc baggie. > > This wasn't a problem with my previous cars that had plain, > metal keys. > > Thanks, > Gary > > > -- Jim Yanik jyanik at kua.net |

Mine's gotten plenty wet in the 4 years I've had it with no problems. Mine's a 2002 - I don't know if they added the remote/key thing to later models - if you have something like that, then no, it's not waterproof. -- ----------------------------- I only talk like that in the movies |

No, it isn't. The key contains passive circuitry that is queried by a transceiver in the ignition lock. If water gets into the key's circuitry it might not work. The remote is separate and definitely is not waterproof. It can be detached and locked in the car. I should have mentioned it is a 2005 Std in case the keys changed over the production run. Gary |

IMO,nil. -- Jim Yanik jyanik at kua.net |
