Default 2006 TL Trunk - Should it open when in drive?

I've got a 2006 TL (AT - Navi) and noticed the other day that the
trunk release can be activated while driving. Luckily I was in the
driveway when I hit the button instead of on the highway, but I was
surprised it opened for safety reasons.

Is this normal? Is there a way to defeat it short of overiding the
release from the main switch in the glove box?

Thanks!
Greg

My '03 and '04 TL and my current '05 RL all act the same way.
Personally, I don't see a problem with it but I've never hit the
trunk button while moving.

Lee, thanks for letting me know it's normal. Like you say, it's no
real problem as the release switch location and design is such that it
won't likely get "accidently" pushed.

> Well, potentially it is a problem, albeit a small one if you're attentive. e.g., my '02 RL does the same thing as you've described, and I've walked away from it after getting out of the car and pocketing the remote. What has happened is that the trunk release gets pushed, and since the trunk doesn't open very much, as in some manufacturer's cars, you may not notice that the trunk has popped, when in fact it has. Also, sometimes in getting into the car, the trunk release gets pushed, trunk opens, and you drive off and around town and may not notice it, as it has not opened far enough to see it. As stated, on my car when the trunk is released with the remote, the trunk hardly rises at all. Sorry for the long rant......... 8-)

If you're getting in and driving away, you should get a warning on
the dash that the trunk is open. If you're getting out and walking
away, the problem will be obvious once you try to lock the car --
because the car won't lock with the trunk open. Now, to be honest,
I know my RL gives me a warning on the dash when the trunk is open
but I can't remember for sure that my TL's did. I think so, but I'm
not sure.
