I am looking at purchasing a 2005 TL, with navigation. I have a few
questions that the dealer could not answer: How many channel receiver is the actual GPS receiver? My Garmin GPS 5 is a 12 channel. Does the Acura GPS receciver have WAAS capability? What is the accuracy in feet on the Acura navigation? Where is the antenna? Does it have any problems with low signal levels, or aquisition, since it is apparently not on the roof? How far in can you go on the receiver? My Garmin can overzoom to 80 feet full screen. Is there a screen that shows sginal level of the various satellites and a compass heading etc, similiar to the GPS 5. Can the DVD player also play MP3 songs on a CD? Thanks in advance,.. Does anyone have a link to webpages addressing these issues? Skip |

Thanks to everyone regarding the TL Nav info. I will look up Navigation
technologies. If the accuracy is 1/20 of a mile, that equates to264 feet! Ouch!! How can you tell what side of the road you are on with that kind of error rate? It's extremely accurate, in fact, it also factors in things like yaw rate and speed when calculating the position. BTW, just to correct a few things others have said, the antenna is on the rear speaker shelf. The one on the roof is the XM antenna. You actually can get satellite info but you need to bring up the diagnostic screens to get it. To get into diag mode, press and hold the MAP,MENU, and CANCEL buttons. Lots of really cool stuff there but you can screw up the system royally if you're not careful. You've been warned! ![]() |

Dan:
Cool. Sounds better. I do like my Garmin, but it is small and somewaht a pain to download the maps. I will have to check out the Nav at my local dealer. When are the )6's coming out and any changes? When are the )6's coming out and any changes? For several years before buying my '04 TL with Navi, I used a Garmin dash unit (StreetPilot Color). It's really a very nice unit with the only slight negatives being it's relatively small screen size and downloading the maps can be a bit of a pain unless you buy additional and/or larger RAM chips. However, even with that experience, I can tell you that I've sold the Garmin unit and I love the TL's Navi. It's just accurate. It calculates very good routes with different routing options if desired. The screen is larger than the Garmin units. It's integrated with the TL's voice system, the Bluetooth system (for calling POI telephone #'s), and the HVAC system. |

A dealer in Texas advised me that when each new model year comes out, is
when they update the DVD for the Nav. Has anyone found that to be true? No. There have been 3 updates since my 2000 TL was new (5 years).
