Default 1990 acura legend trans problems

I have a 1990 acura legend 2 dr 2.7l. I just put in a used trans and
the car runs terrible. While in drive the car will shift out of gear
and goes into what seems to be neut. I shut off the car and it seems
to be ok again. I took it to a couple tran shops and no one can tell
me anything. The advice I got was to change the neutral switch. ? I
also heard that it might be the ecu. ? Could it be a solenoid? On the
insturment panel the d for drive does not light up, and s3 keeps
blinking which leads me to believe that it is something electical. Any
advice would be greatly appreciated

if the S3 light is blinking that means the ecu has stored a code take the
car to autozone and see if they can pull the code for you and repost the
code then maybe can help you more

Thanks for your help. I will have to try autozone. One of the trans
shops told me they tried to hook up a scanner but were’nt able to.
They said that there was a severe power drain and they were not able
to pull any codes. Who knows. One step at a time I guess. Thanks again

No scanner should be needed. Turn the ingnition switch on (but don't
start the car). There is an LED on the transmission computer under the
passenger's seat. Count the blinks.

Got only one blink. I did notice that the cooling fans kept turning on
and off. Could this be an ecu problem? Maybe the AT computer? Thanks
for your help. Much appreciated.

One blink is the code for the converter lockup solenoid.

Do you know which one that is upper or lower? Also I read an owners
manual and they said that 7 quarts for the whole transmission. I’m
asumming that includes the converter. I only put in 5 could that also
be the problem? I read in other forums that it could be the speed
sensor. Do you have any ideas what the two sensors located on the
transmission are for? Is there a way to check the solenoids
themselves? Again thanks for your help. I guess I just don’t know
where to start first on this car.

The trans only takes 3.3 quarts on a fluid change. I do mine every 35000
miles. Drain out the 5 quarts you put in and put in 3 quarts and you will
be OK.

As far as the trans not working and the engine not running correct after the
trans was replaced, has this been resolved?

The only thing I saw wrong was the 5 qts of trans fluid. If you got it to
run down the street you would undoubtedly damage the trans from the excess
fluid.

I don't know anything about replacing solenoids.
