Any help would be greatly appreciated. I found a 1991 one owner Integra GS
with the automatic transmission for my daughter, it's in like new condition i.e. seats, rubber, paint and body and runs/looks good no leaks, but high mileage at 144000 miles. The service records are in order and has recently had timing belt, hoses, water pump and belts replaced. Now the problem, there is a noise, as if a fan motor is running but dragging or as if hitting something, or as if a pump is running but cavitating. The noise comes from the right side as if from the transaxle. It's relatively loud and can be heard from inside the car. It is intermittent but at regular intervals but only does it when the car is moving or will complete the cycle when stopped but never start until the car is moving again. When driving the sound never speeds up/down and is consistent in all gears. The transmission shifts smooth and solid The a/c is off and it is not the cooling fans. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter, Jay |

After starting up and driving away the ABS system will fail its self test and shut down, lighting the ABS light. Drive for a while with the ABS off and see if your noise has gone away. If it has, suspect the ABS pump which can make strange, intermittent groans. |

The tip off is that the noise only happens when the car is moving above a certain speed. |

This would cause the pump to run a lot. If the pump is unable to pressurize the system correctly within 120 seconds, the ALB light will illuminate. -- TeGGeR® The Unofficial Honda/Acura FAQ www.tegger.com/hondafaq/ |

Thanks Guys,
That was it, after disabling the ABS the noise stopped! I have checked the fluid level for the ABS system and found it to be overfilled. Could this be an indicator of an impending problem? The system never set any codes and when testing the car under hard braking the ABS worked. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If there is air in the system, the pump will continuously try to pressurize the system. Read the warnings in the shop manual about ABS work and follow them or consider taking it to the dealer. |

It has been the most reliable car I ever had and I had more then 20. Twice I went to the dealer for the recommended service ( new clutch and valves adjustments) and was told not to waist money until the clutch starts failing and the valves make noise. He ( the manager) said that it has seen 91 Acuras that don't need that before they have 250k miles. Mine has 100k Vlad |

I agree, 144K not that high. I have a 91 Integra (manual) purchased
with 99K, now has 239,999K. Still going strong. Only dealer service has been (timing belt/water pump).
