Default 93 Legend L (Fuel Pump Relay)

My 93 Legend (164000 miles) would not start and the Acura Dealership said it
was the fuel pump relay. The Relay Part and Labor to replace it would cost
$213 plus tax. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how much did it
cost to repair?

Thanks,
Gil

Only about 8,000,000,000,000,000,000 people.

It's arguably the #1 most common problem with Hondas.

Sounds like you were charged for the EFI Main Relay and an hour's labor.
It's fair. Although, the labor portion could have been $20 or $30 cheaper
if you'd got an independent garage to do it.

I find it hard to believe that an Acura mechanic, who has doubtless
done it MANY times and has just the right tools, would take an hour to
swap out a relay. Charge an hour yes, take an hour no. Yes, it is
tucked away under the dash, but it is still a one bolt, one connector
operation.

Is the Dealer price for a Main Relay $150 nowadays?

Not quite, but the relay in that 2nd gen legend is MUCH more than the relay
in the 90-93 accord.

So they put a different, more expensive part in the 2nd generation and
it STILL has the same problem?

I see a lot more 91-95 legends on the road (compared to the 86-90) and I've
seen way fewer main relays fail in them. But they are also newer..... so I
might just need to give them more time. Also, the main relay is bigger....
maybe it was built to handle more power and heat.

If you have access to the invoice, could you post the part number of the
relay they installed?

The invoice has the part # for the main efi relay:
39400-SP0-013 Relay (RZ-0105) Cost $78.44

They reaped me off on the labor $134.82
Total $230.00 including tax and supplies

$16.54 (plus shipping) for Standard brand main relay at rockauto.com.

No affiliation whatsoever.
