Check the stuff screwed to the bottom of the shelf - stereo speakers, nav unit, child seat anchors, etc. My '00 had a noise in that area when new that was traced to a loose speaker. Put somebody in the back seat with the pass-though open, drive around until it starts making the noise and get him/her to reach through and try touching various things to find the source by feel. Your back seat passenger can also press up on the roof liner and see if that makes it stop. Also check that the spare tire and jack are securely screwed down and that the tools are not bouncing around loose in the tire well. The sound can transmit through the car body and sound like it is coming from a completely different place. These things can be very difficult to trace unless you have a willing partner to trace it while it is happening. It can be practically anything, from a failing shock absorber to junk bouncing around in the center console, to loose anchors in the headliner. |
