Default Distributor rotor

Dear Folks,

94 Teg; the manual said that there is a screw directly, 180 degree,
from the
rotor's contact point at the back, screw into the distributor shaft.

I couldn't see the screw at all, and, now I'm certain that there is
none. So, maybe the previous tune-up person didn't use a genuine honda
part. But, the rotor, without the screw, seems to be so stuck on the
distributor shaft, and I am reluctant to use too much force.

Can somebody give me some advise; it is very silly. All my years of
playing with a car, and I can't get a silly rotor off.

TIA

Vince

You may need to remove the distributor...

The '90-'91 distributor rotor has the screw located pretty far down the
shaft. You need to shift a thin "leak cover" over before you can see it,
and the rotor needs to be pointing at the #1 terminal on the cap (TDC).

However...Other posters have reported big trouble getting at that screw in
'92 and later vehicles, because apparently that leak cover hides the screw
and is not easily removed or dislodged for screw access.

The distributor was redesigned after '91, apparently for the worse.

A poster named George Macdonald (who was a fixture in
rec.autos.makers.honda for the longest time) posted that he needed to
remove the distributor from the car (easy) before he could get at the rotor
screw, which was only accessible from the REAR. I have not got a '94
factory shop manual, so cannot confirm if there is another way to do this.

That one is for a 90-91. Here is one for the later distributor, which may
help you figure out what to do next:

On my 94 Integra, there was most certainly a set screw.

When I used to replace the roto, when the screw wasn't in a position
where I could access it, I would turn the key and it would turn the
rotor just enough so I could get access to it.

I believe this one is removable with a phillips driver from
under while still on the car. Unfortunately, it's almost
impossible to remove the screw for the first time. It's even
preferable to remove the distributor on a work bench
because the coil is so sensitive to vibration that any work
near the coil is risky. However, there is one particular Integra
distribtr with an aftermarket rotor with no screw. This one is
also difficult to remove.
