Default '99 Acura RL Won't start - cold or electronic?

This car has 80,000 miles and has been running great. The service enging
soon light has been on for about 4000 miles. It requirs and EGR service
according to my mechanic. I drove home on Wed. and Thurs. morning it won't
start. turns over fine but there isn't a hint that it will fire. It seams
sudden so I was wondering if the computer system has any function that
will not allow the car to start after so many miles driven with the
service engine light on? Any ideas... oh and one more thing the temp went
from 55 to 25 over night, 1st cold night since I got the car,
Thanks,
Zoomer

When you turn the key to the on position, before turning to 'start',
do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds?

If not: http://www3.telus.net/public/johning...html#MainRelay

Bet you've got some ice in the fuel line. Try some gas-line antifreeze
(sometimes called "dry gas").

John's right -- listen for the pump; if you turn the key on without starting
you should hear a 2 second buzz.

You might be able to hear it from the inside of the car, but in case you
can't you can use the following poor man's stethoscope:
Make a fist, stick a pencil or stick of wood in the fist and hold the other
end of the pencil on the gas filler tube. Put your fist on your ear and have
someone turn the key, not cranking the engine. You'll look silly but it
does work well. You'll hear a two second buzz while the pump runs briefly to
prime the system.

If you hear the pump, check for spark. Pepboys/Autozone both have an
inexpensive tool (sub $15) that would let you do that. It looks like a hand
held probe you hold onto the spark plug wire while someone starts -- a
pulsating LED will indicate spark (no need to unplug or hook anything up).
If you don't see a spark, look into possibly replacing plugs, wires, cap,
rotor - possibly ignitor and coil (the latter two are very expensive).

Hope you get it running soon.

Remco

Thanks, It was bad gas. Put in some Iso-propal and waited till it heated up
outside. Did crank for a while before it started but it is fine now,
Thanks,

Thanks for the tip, turned out to be bad gas. I could not hear the fuel
pump from inside the car but I could outside. I also was able to put my
finger on the main relay and feel it click on for 2 seconds and then off,
which match the amount of time that the pump was supposed to be on
according to John so I ruled it it.
Thanks for the post.
