In the 2001 TL, is the seatbelt indicator supposed to be on when
someone is sitting in the front passager seat but the seat belt is not
fastened? Mine only seems to care that the driver's belt is fastened.
It does not seem to care that someone is actually in the driver's
seat.

I have a feeling that there are no pressure switches in the seats
connected to that seatbelt indicator in the panel.

The TL assumes that if you are operating the car you are sitting in the
drivers seat.
The passenger seat does have a sensor and complains when I set a bag of
groceries on it.

under the front passenger seat. The indicator light just won't come on
when I'm sitting it that seat. Makes me wonder if any other controls
such as SRS might be affected.

Well, folks, I have read and re-read the sections in the owner's
manual, and it states very clearly that the seat belt reminder will
turn off when the driver's seat belt is fastened. That's it. Nothing
at all is said about the front passenger seat. So I think my 2001
works as expected.

Maybe "person_of_interest" has a different year, or model.
