After 12 years of superlative service the tape deck in my Integra has pitched a hissy: Upon inserting a tape, the drive mechanism cycles back and forth between directions, eventually spitting the tape out after about five or six tries. ....'Little help? TIA Mark PS I'm selling this car soon and would prefer to repair rather than replace this deck. |

I've been pretty rigorous about that, all along.< Everything in the tape path, or just the heads? Have you ever taken the unit out of the dash, removed the covers and blown the dust out of it? Tape oxide deposits on any surface it touches while it's moving. Of course, with most of the tape transport being plastic, it's also possible that it's just worn out after all that time. |

Any idea how to get it out of the dash without major surgery? |

Wish I did. I haven't seen a car in the past 20 years or so where the factory stereo came out easily. Finding the shop manual for the car is probably your best bet. |

I had an 88 Accord LXi head unit that did that... (probably the same power
loading mechanism)... the stereo shop replaced the belts in it and it fixed the problem. The tape belt is broken, that causes it to keep reversing between fwd & rev.
