Default Opinions on a purchase

Found a 93 Legend (L model) w/ 125000 miles on it.
Body is in good shape, not great. Some touch up
work has been done and there is evidence of a
minor front end wreck. Interior fair. Missing
incidentials like jack and lug wrench. The big
worry in my mind is that the guy selling it (a
dealer that bought the car at auction) told me
that the automatic tranny has been rebuilt,
sometime over a year ago, no idea of the mileage.

I thought that these cars were pretty
indestructible and a tranny rebuild after only
125,000 miles seems kinda odd. It also makes me
suspect that the car might have been run pretty
hard. I would have to put in a new timing belt
(and maybe water pump) just to feel safe. Anybody
got any input on what else I would need to do to
this car IF I made the jump and bought it?

I'm thinking this is probably a 4000-5000 dollar
car, would that seem right to you?

TIA

Kevin

Front end wreck? Rebuilt tranny? 4000-5000 dollars? Surely you can do
better for that money!

I recently got a '96 Infiniti I30 in perfect condition with 80,000 miles for
that kind of money from a dealer. A car three years older with evidence of
a wreck, missing parts and a questionable transmission should bring
considerably less. Take a look at the used car appraisal section of
edmunds.com and punch in "poor" condition and see what they say it should be
worth.
