Just bought a 99 Integra 2 door for my daughter. It has 159000 miles on it.
Seems in very good condition. Oil is very clean and trans fluid is clean
and full.
If you take off kinda slow the transmission has a very hard shift into
second at about 3000 rpms.
If you wind it up a little to say 4500 it shifts very smooth.
Any ideas - maybe the owner before did a computer programming to adjust
shift point. An adjustment somewhere?
Please give me some ideas to look for.

Earlier this year we got our daughter a 96 Integra with just under
100,000 miles. Shifted similar to yours. We had only tested one other
Integra that had insanely stiff suspension, so I was not sure what
"normal" is, so I >>half<< suspected the hard shifting was Honda's
intent, especially since A fluid change at a dealer did not change it
much. Normally I completely disregard oil additive claims, but I
added Half a jug of LUCAS and practically by the end of the street it
shifted in a much more civilized manner. A few 1000 miles later and
it's still OK. I will probably do another fluid change shortly, but
chuck in a can of Sea Foam for a few thousand miles hoping to try and
de-gum the valves in the shift body first.
